The national flag of Malaysia consists of 14 alternating red and white stripes and a dark blue canton containing a crescent and a 14-point star in yellow. The 14 stripes and 14 points of the star represent the equal status and unity of the 13 states and the federal territories. The blue color symbolizes the unity of the people; the crescent represents Islam as the official religion; and yellow reflects the sovereign dignity of the Royal Highnesses.
